Angela Bassett has revealed she actually doesn't know what to say when she's praised for her ageless appearance during an interview with NET-A-PORTER’s digital magazine, PorterEdit.
Elegant in a striking cover shoot for the publication, the Mission: Impossible - Fallout star explained: 'I guess it’s a high-class problem to have. But you don't really know what to say when someone says: "Oh, my God, you look so good [for 59]".
Ang added that she takes care of herself and monitors what she puts in her body: 'I’m regimented and rigorous about what I’m eating. Diet is 85 percent of the whole thing for me.'
The Black Panther actress, who is married to fellow actor Courtney B. Vance, 58, also discussed diversity in film, explaining that black women are still under served in acting.
'There are more roles [for black women], but if you look at the statistics, there are more platforms, more opportunities, for everyone. So, when you actually dive into the percentages, they’re still the same. There’s always still work to do on this house.'
She went on to describe how important Black Panther was for diversity in the film industry.
'Every now and again, something comes along that moves movie culture forward, and Panther definitely sits on that throne. To have a black male superhero, but also to have strong, complicated, vivid, black female characters was special.
'Usually we are just the mothers of, the lovers of… culturally, socially, it just resonates on so many different levels, and I’m so proud to be a part of it.”
Ang also shared details about her marriage of 21 years, and explained that she never wanted Courtney to feel held back by their relationship.
