"Let Me Love You feat. Lil Wayne" by Ariana Grande - Song Review

An unfortunate misstep such as "Focus" could have derailed an entire project before it officially started, but the lukewarm reception to the once-lead single seems to have not even phased devilishly angelic crooner Ariana Grande. After coming back stronger than ever with the one-two-punch release of the mature "Dangerous Woman" and dance gem "Be Alright", the former Nickelodeon star returns with the Lil Wayne-assisted "Let Me Love You", just a day after she revealed the star-studded track list for her upcoming third studio album.

"Let Me Love You" maintains and plays up the seductive, slow jam vibe that was present on the album's new lead single. Grande wastes no time at getting over an ex following a touchy break up, immediately rebounding and falling into the lap of the next guy who catches her eye. With an enticing, slow-building backing beat, the artist contemplates letting go of her inhibitions for one night, with a man who clearly wants to love her back in all the right ways.

When Dangerous Woman was first announced, Grande promised a more mature sound and image to support the anticipated project. She has definitely kept that promise. Besides the sultry vocal performance, it is the songwriting that paints a commanding "not a girl, not yet a woman" picture for the former Queen of Innocence.  "I just broke up with my ex, you're the one I’m feeling as I'm laying on your chest, good conversation got me holding my breath, and I don’t normally say this but goddamn, you're the best," she sings.

And not only does Grande succeed in getting the sexually-driven message across to the unsuspecting listeners, but featured guest Lil Wayne adds his own stamp of playful approval with a solid verse filled with naughty wordplay and imaginative innuendos. Once the rapper cleverly uses Grande's own name as a reference to his supposedly endowed member, we all know "Let Me Love You" instantly becomes the most adult offering the artist has delivered since her praised official debut in 2013.

With three album tracks heard so far, it's evident that Grande's third album will be influenced by a range of genres. "Let Me Love You" continues pushing the boundaries for the artist, allowing room for her young audience to grow. With a frisky, whisper-heavy delivery, risque subtext and the addition of a provocative rap verse, the recently released song is a strong, effective way for Grande to prove she may not be as innocent as everyone once thought she was.
